Servers and what goes with them
Container Apps and Cloud Compute are the servers. Floating IPs, DDoS Shield and Game Connections give them addresses and protection.
- Container Apps: Game servers and apps with the software installed for you, and a dashboard to run them.
- Cloud Compute: Virtual machines with full root access, where you install what you need.
- Apps and Databases: Node.js and Python apps, WordPress and database servers, on Container Apps.
- Floating IPs: IPv4 addresses that belong to your account, which you can move from one server to another.
- DDoS Shield: Filters out the floods of traffic that DDoS attacks send, on every floating IP.
- Game Connections: A join address that players type to reach your game server, at no charge for servers hosted here.
Servers are paid on every plan
No server of any kind is free on Coritan. Each server has a price of its own, which is the same on every plan.
- Pay by the month or longer. Pay each month, or choose a longer term when the plan offers one. The Container Apps and Cloud Compute pages show what a longer term saves against paying monthly.
- Or pay by the hour. Container Apps servers and Cloud Compute instances can also be paid by the hour. We take each hour’s price from your credit. Hourly billing opens once you have added a set amount of credit in total. A Container Apps server costs nothing while it is stopped. - A monthly cap on hourly charges. Each hourly server has a monthly cap. Once its charges reach the cap, we stop charging it until the 1st of the next month, and it keeps running.
What Pro and Business add for servers
Pro and Business do not change what a server costs. They include automatic backups and floating IPs, and Business includes a custom profile too.
- Automatic backups for Container Apps. On Pro and up, we take a snapshot of each Container Apps server every day and keep the newest 7. On Free, add them to a server with the Automatic Server Backups add-on. How server backups work
- Automatic backups for Cloud Compute. Business pays for automatic backups on up to 3 instances, and Enterprise on every instance. On other plans, the backup add-ons cost a share of the instance price. Back up and restore an instance
- Floating IPs. Pro includes 1 floating IP, Business 2 and Enterprise 10, attached or not. Your account plan pays for single addresses. A block of addresses always bills at its own price. When your account plan pays for a floating IP

Frequently asked questions
Are any servers free?
No server of any kind is free on Coritan. You pay for each one by the month, or by the hour for Container Apps and Cloud Compute once you have added a set amount of credit in total.
Should I choose Container Apps or Cloud Compute?
Choose Container Apps when the software you want is in our catalogue, such as a Minecraft server or a database: we install it, and you run it from the dashboard. Choose Cloud Compute when you want a whole virtual machine with root access, where you install everything yourself.

The Container Apps and Cloud Compute pages list the locations you can order in, and mark any with no room right now. The data centre pages describe each site.
Are my servers protected from DDoS attacks?
DDoS Shield filters every floating IP at no charge, and the address of a Cloud Compute instance is one. The shared address of a Container Apps server is not filtered, so attach a floating IP to the server, or give players a join address, which keeps the server’s address hidden.
Can I back up my servers?
You can take a snapshot of a Container Apps server, or a snapshot or backup of a Cloud Compute instance, at any time. Automatic backups come with some plans, or as an add-on for each server.
