A snapshot is a full archive of a Container Apps server’s files, kept on your account. Restore it onto any of your servers, or start a new server from it, and add snapshot room when your snapshots need more than your account has.

Your account has one allowance for all its snapshots. Each Snapshot Storage plan adds its size to it, and plans add up.

- Each Container Apps server’s plan includes room for snapshots
- A server’s plan with no figure of its own includes twice its disk
- The Pro account plan adds 100 GB, and Business adds 500 GB
- Each Snapshot Storage plan adds its size
What Snapshot Storage gives you
Every snapshot on your account can do these, whichever server it came from.
- Full archives of your servers. A snapshot holds every file on a Container Apps server, compressed. It belongs to your account, so it stays after the server is gone. A snapshot does not hold the server’s databases.
- Restore onto any server. Restore a snapshot onto the server it came from, or onto any other server on your account.
- A new server from a snapshot. On the Container Apps order page, choose one of your snapshots under Start from. We install its software, then restore its files.
- Snapshots on a schedule. Take snapshots by hand or on a schedule. A schedule makes room by deleting the oldest snapshots it took itself.
- Lock, download or delete. Lock a snapshot so nothing deletes it by accident, download its archive, or delete it to free room.
- A warning before any cleanup. If your account goes over its allowance, we refuse new snapshots until it fits again. We email you a cleanup date, 30 days later, and name the snapshots we would delete.
How it works
- Take a snapshot. Take one from a server’s Snapshots tab, or let a schedule take them for you.
- Keep it on your account. It counts against your account’s allowance until you delete it, even after the server is gone.
- Restore it or start a server. Restore it onto any of your servers, or choose it when you order a new Container Apps server.

What is in a snapshot?

How much snapshot room do I have?
Your account has one allowance for all its snapshots. Each Container Apps server’s plan includes some, and a server’s plan with no figure of its own includes twice its disk. The Pro account plan adds 100 GB and Business 500 GB, and each Snapshot Storage plan adds its size.
What happens if my snapshots need more room than I have?
We refuse new snapshots until your account fits again. We also email you a cleanup date, 30 days later by default. If the account is still over by then, we delete your oldest snapshots.
Can I start a new server from a snapshot?
On the Container Apps order page, choose One of my snapshots under Start from. We install the software the snapshot recorded, then restore its files once the install finishes.
Do Cloud Compute instances use Snapshot Storage?
An instance keeps its own snapshots on the same storage as its disk, up to 8 at a time, so they do not use Snapshot Storage. Snapshot Storage holds the snapshots of Container Apps servers.
