A floating IP is a public IPv4 address that belongs to your account. Attach it to an instance or a server, and move it to another one when you need to.

What every floating IP includes
Each address comes with these, whichever server it is on.
- Move it between servers. Detach the address from one server and attach it to another, so the address players and visitors use stays the same.
- Filtered by DDoS Shield. We filter DDoS attacks, floods of traffic meant to take a server offline, on every floating IP at no charge.
- Reverse DNS. Set the name the address points back to. Mail servers check it before they accept your email.
- Choose the region. Each region has its own pool of addresses. Order the address in the region of the server it goes on.
- For instances and servers. A Cloud Compute instance can hold several floating IPs, and a Container Apps server one.
- Free as an instance’s main address. A single address costs nothing while it is the primary address of a Cloud Compute instance.

- Order an address. Choose the region and how often you pay, and we assign an address from that region’s pool.
- Attach it. Attach the address to an instance or a server from the dashboard.
- Move it when you need to. Detach it and attach it to another server. The address stays on your account.

A single address costs nothing while it is the primary address of a Cloud Compute instance. Pro also includes 1 single address, Business 2 and Enterprise 10, attached or not. Any other address bills at its own price.
Are floating IPs protected from DDoS attacks?
DDoS Shield filters every floating IP at no charge, whether or not it is attached. You can change how strict the filter is for each address.
Where can I use a floating IP?
On a Cloud Compute instance or a Container Apps server in the same region as the address. An instance can hold several floating IPs, and a server one.
