Run a hobby app
Deploy a hobby web app from git. It sleeps when nobody visits, and every account has free memory, CPU, requests and data out each month.
A web app that few people visit needs very little. It sleeps when it is idle, and the free amounts every account gets each month can cover it. A one-time deposit unlocks usage billing and stays as credit.

What every account gets free each month
These amounts are shared by all your web services, and they start again each month.
What servers cost, by use
Web services and static sites need no plan and no size. You pay for the memory and CPU they use, the requests they answer and the data they send out, after the free amounts below. Virtual machines and game servers pay for memory while they run, the CPU they use and their disk for as long as they exist.
| Meter | Price | Free each month on every account | Free each month with the Paid plan |
|---|---|---|---|
| Memory | $0.003 per GiB-hour | 100 GiB-hours | 25 GiB-hours |
| CPU, the CPU you use | $0.015 per vCPU-hour | 50 vCPU-hours | 6.25 vCPU-hours |
| Disk | $0.00005 per GB-hour | — | 200 GB-hours |
| Requests to web services | $0.15 per million | 10 million | — |
| Data out, North America and Europe | $0.0125 per GB | 100 GB in any region | 1,000 GB |
| Data out, Oceania | $0.025 per GB | The same GB | 500 GB |
| Data out, everywhere else | $0.02 per GB | The same GB | 500 GB |
| Builds | $0.0025 per minute | 3,000 minutes | — |
| Logs | $0.125 per GB | 15 GB | — |
- Performance sizes cost 1.5 times as much for memory, CPU and disk.
- The Paid plan costs $4.50 a month, or $3.60 a month billed yearly, and Pro and Business include it.
Two ways to run it
- A web service from git. Deploy from a git repository or an image. An instance sleeps after a short time with no visitors, wakes on the next request, and costs nothing while it sleeps. App Deployment
- A static site. Our edge serves its files at no charge, under a fair use limit of 25 MiB per file. A static site needs no deposit. Static sites
What it costs
The estimate prices one small instance that is awake a few hours a day. Change the inputs to match your app.
Worked examples
A hobby web app that scales to zero
1 instance running 2.4 hours a day, using 0.5 GiB and 0.1 vCPU each, answering 0.5 million requests and sending 2 GB out.
| What | Used | Free | Price | Amount |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Web app: Memory | 36.5 GiB-hours | 36.5 | $0.003 | $0.00 |
| Web app: CPU | 7.3 vCPU-hours | 7.3 | $0.015 | $0.00 |
| Web app: Requests | 0.5 million requests | 0.5 | $0.15 | $0.00 |
| Web app: Data out | 2 GB | 2 | $0.0125 | $0.00 |
A month costs $0.00.
Each month assumes none of the free amounts is used yet, and prices are in US dollars before any promo code.
From sign-up to a running app
- Create your account. Sign up with your email address. The Free plan needs no card. Read the guide
- Add credit. The first deposit unlocks usage billing for a web service and stays as credit. A static site needs none. Read the guide
- Deploy your app. Connect a repository or an image, choose a location and give the service a name. Read the guide
What to know
- An app that grows past the free amounts is billed by what it uses, at the prices on Pricing.
- You can set a spend limit on a service, and we email you as use nears it.
Deploy something small
Start on the Free plan, then deploy your first app.
Frequently asked questions
Does a hobby app cost anything?
It can cost nothing. An instance that sleeps costs nothing while it sleeps, and the free amounts cover a small app. A one-time deposit unlocks usage billing and stays as credit.
What is the difference between a web service and a static site?
A web service runs your code on an instance. A static site is files that our edge serves, so it runs no code and needs no deposit.
What happens when the app grows?
Use past the free amounts is billed by what the app uses. You can set a spend limit on a service, and we email you as use nears it.
