In the dashboard:

Webmail takes the keys that most mail apps use. To see the list while you work, press <kbd>?</kbd>, select the keyboard button at the top of the page, or choose **Keyboard shortcuts** in the account menu.

## Navigation

| Keys | What it does |
| --- | --- |
| <kbd>g</kbd> then <kbd>i</kbd> | Go to Inbox |
| <kbd>g</kbd> then <kbd>s</kbd> | Go to Starred |
| <kbd>g</kbd> then <kbd>t</kbd> | Go to Sent |
| <kbd>g</kbd> then <kbd>d</kbd> | Go to Drafts |
| <kbd>g</kbd> then <kbd>a</kbd> | Go to All mail |
| <kbd>/</kbd> | Put the cursor in the search box |
| <kbd>j</kbd> or <kbd>↓</kbd> | In the list, move to the next conversation. While you read, <kbd>j</kbd> opens the next conversation in the list. |
| <kbd>k</kbd> or <kbd>↑</kbd> | In the list, move to the previous conversation. While you read, <kbd>k</kbd> opens the previous conversation in the list. |
| <kbd>Enter</kbd> or <kbd>o</kbd> | Open the conversation the list is on |
| <kbd>u</kbd> | Go back from a conversation to the list |
| <kbd>n</kbd> | While you read, open the next conversation in the list |
| <kbd>p</kbd> | While you read, open the previous conversation in the list |
| <kbd>?</kbd> | Show or hide the list of shortcuts |
| <kbd>Esc</kbd> | Close a dialog, such as the list of shortcuts, or clear the selection |

The list shows the newest conversations first, so the next conversation is an older one.

## Actions

An action key works on the conversations you have selected. With nothing selected, it works on the conversation the list is on, or on the one you are reading.

| Keys | What it does |
| --- | --- |
| <kbd>c</kbd> | Open a new message |
| <kbd>r</kbd> | While you read, reply to the newest message that is not a draft |
| <kbd>a</kbd> | While you read, reply to everyone on that message |
| <kbd>f</kbd> | While you read, forward that message |
| <kbd>e</kbd> | Archive |
| <kbd>#</kbd> | Move to Trash. In Trash or Spam, delete forever. |
| <kbd>!</kbd> | Report as spam |
| <kbd>s</kbd> | Add a star, or remove it |
| <kbd>+</kbd> or <kbd>=</kbd> | Mark as important |
| <kbd>-</kbd> | Mark as not important |
| <kbd>b</kbd> | Open the **Snooze until** menu |
| <kbd>m</kbd> | Mute |
| <kbd>x</kbd> | Select the conversation the list is on, or clear it |
| <kbd>Shift</kbd>+<kbd>i</kbd> | Mark as read |
| <kbd>Shift</kbd>+<kbd>u</kbd> | Mark as unread |
| <kbd>l</kbd> | Open the **Labels** menu |
| <kbd>v</kbd> | Open the **Move to** menu |
| <kbd>z</kbd> | Undo the last action, while the bar at the bottom of the page shows **Undo** |

In the list, <kbd>b</kbd>, <kbd>l</kbd> and <kbd>v</kbd> select the conversation the list is on when nothing is selected, then open the menu.

When you press <kbd>e</kbd>, <kbd>#</kbd>, <kbd>!</kbd>, <kbd>m</kbd> or <kbd>Shift</kbd>+<kbd>u</kbd> while you read a conversation, webmail goes back to the list.

In **Scheduled**, <kbd>e</kbd>, <kbd>#</kbd>, <kbd>!</kbd>, <kbd>b</kbd> and <kbd>v</kbd> do nothing. A message waiting there leaves only when you cancel its send, as [Change or cancel a scheduled message](/docs/mail/webmail/write-and-send/#change-or-cancel-a-scheduled-message) explains.

## Compose

These keys work inside a compose window. On a Mac, press <kbd>⌘</kbd> in place of <kbd>Ctrl</kbd>.

| Keys | What it does |
| --- | --- |
| <kbd>Ctrl</kbd>+<kbd>Enter</kbd> | Send the message |
| <kbd>Ctrl</kbd>+<kbd>B</kbd> | Bold |
| <kbd>Ctrl</kbd>+<kbd>I</kbd> | Italic |
| <kbd>Ctrl</kbd>+<kbd>U</kbd> | Underline |
| <kbd>Ctrl</kbd>+<kbd>K</kbd> | Insert a link |
| <kbd>Esc</kbd> | Minimise the window, unless it fills the screen |

In **To**, **Cc** or **Bcc**, <kbd>Enter</kbd>, a comma or a semicolon turns what you typed into a recipient. While suggestions show, <kbd>Enter</kbd> or <kbd>Tab</kbd> takes the highlighted one. See [Add recipients](/docs/mail/webmail/write-and-send/#add-recipients).

## When the keys work

- The keys work only while the cursor is outside any field. While you type in the search box, a form or a message, they type as usual.
- The keys in Navigation and Actions do nothing inside a compose window, while a dialog or a menu is open, or while <kbd>Alt</kbd>, <kbd>Ctrl</kbd> or <kbd>⌘</kbd> is held down.
- For a pair such as <kbd>g</kbd> then <kbd>i</kbd>, press the second key within 1.2 seconds of the first.
