In the dashboard:

- /dashboard/billing: https://www.coritan.com/dashboard/billing
- /dashboard/billing/invoices: https://www.coritan.com/dashboard/billing/invoices
- /dashboard/billing/methods: https://www.coritan.com/dashboard/billing/methods

You can pay an invoice or add credit in several ways. Which ones you see depends on the currency of the payment, your billing country and what Coritan has switched on. This page lists them all, says which ones renewals can use, and explains what you see while a bank payment clears.

Open **Billing** in the [dashboard](https://www.coritan.com/dashboard/billing) to use them. [Pay an invoice](/docs/billing/invoices/) and [Add credit to your balance](/docs/billing/add-credit/) give the steps.

## What decides the list

A method shows in the payment form only when all three of these hold:

- Coritan has switched it on for the account that takes your payment.
- Your billing country can use it. [Your billing country](/docs/billing/currencies-and-regions/#your-billing-country) says how Coritan picks it.
- The payment is in a currency that method takes. The **Currency** list in the **Pay** dialog and in the **Add credit** card sets it ([Currencies and countries](/docs/billing/currencies-and-regions/)).

When a method you expect is missing, change the **Currency** first. A method for one country, such as iDEAL, also needs your billing country to be that country. To change it, go to **Settings**, then the **Billing address** tab, and use the **Currency and country** card.

The **Card** choice opens one form with every method that fits. When one of your country's own methods is open to you, a line under the form names it, for example `iDEAL is available for your payment.`

## The ways to pay

Card
: Credit and debit cards, in any currency you can choose. A renewal can charge a saved card.

Apple Pay and Google Pay
: A card stored in the wallet. They pay like a card and show as buttons above the other choices ([Pay with Apple Pay or Google Pay](/docs/billing/invoices/#pay-with-apple-pay-or-google-pay)).

Link
: Payment details you saved once, so the form fills itself in.

Bank debit
: You give permission for Coritan to take the payment from your bank account. It is open to customers whose billing country is in the table below, and it takes days to clear.

Bank transfer
: You send the money to a bank account that Coritan gives you after checkout. It takes days to clear.

Local methods
: Payment methods made for one country, such as iDEAL in the Netherlands. Each one takes only the currencies in the table below.

Buy now, pay later
: Klarna, Afterpay, Clearpay, Affirm and Zip let you split a payment or pay later, on the provider's terms.

PayPal
: Choose **PayPal** and approve the payment in the PayPal window. A renewal can charge a saved PayPal account.

Crypto
: Choose **Crypto** to send cryptocurrency ([Pay with cryptocurrency](/docs/billing/crypto-payments/)).

Account credit
: Choose **Account credit** to pay an invoice from your balance ([Add credit to your balance](/docs/billing/add-credit/)).

## What a renewal can use

A renewal or an [automatic top-up](/docs/billing/automatic-top-up/) charges a method you saved without asking you again. These methods can be saved: cards (including a card from Apple Pay or Google Pay), Link, SEPA Direct Debit, ACH Direct Debit, Bacs Direct Debit, Pre-authorized debit in Canada, Cash App Pay, Amazon Pay, Revolut Pay and PayPal. iDEAL and Bancontact are kept as a SEPA Direct Debit method.

Every other method pays one payment at a time. You can use it to pay a renewing invoice, and you pay the next invoice yourself.

A payment is never refused because a method cannot be kept. When we cannot keep the method you paid with, the payment still goes through, and the next renewal waits for you to pay it.

An invoice that renews a service offers to keep the method you pay with: the **Keep this payment method for renewals** box under **Card**. To keep a method without paying, use **Add payment method** on the **Payment methods** tab ([Manage payment methods](/docs/billing/payment-methods/)).

## How long a bank payment takes

A card, a wallet and most local methods confirm while you are on the page. A bank debit, a bank transfer and a voucher confirm days later.

| Method | Time to clear |
| --- | --- |
| ACH Direct Debit | Up to 4 business days |
| SEPA Direct Debit | Up to 6 business days |
| Bacs Direct Debit | 4 business days, or 7 on a new mandate |
| Bank transfer through the second card provider | 2 to 3 business days |
| Other bank debits, bank transfers and vouchers such as Multibanco | Days. The bank or the voucher's expiry sets the time. |

A weekend or a bank holiday adds days.

### What you see while it clears

- Invoice: a message says `Payment submitted. The invoice updates once your bank settles it.` or `Your payment is being processed. The invoice updates when it is done.` The invoice stays unpaid until the money arrives. In **Pay all**, the invoice reads **Submitted**.
- Credit: a message says `Your payment is on its way. We add the credit when the payment clears, which can take a few days.` Your balance rises once, when the payment clears. A top-up with a saved method waits while an earlier top-up is processing, for at most 21 days.
- A saved method: a notice titled **Adding your payment method** says your bank is confirming the method, and the method appears on the **Payment methods** tab when the bank confirms. When your bank needs a check first, the notice is titled **One more step to add your payment method** and has a **Verify your account** button.

Do not pay again while a payment processes. Coritan holds the invoice: a second payment on it waits, renewal retries do not charge it again, and an automatic top-up does not repeat. A service suspended over that invoice comes back when the payment clears ([Failed payments and suspended services](/docs/billing/failed-payments/#the-service-is-still-suspended-after-you-paid)). Coritan emails you a receipt when the payment clears.

### When a bank payment fails

The bank can refuse the payment after you pay, for example when the account has too little money. The invoice stays unpaid and you can pay it with another method. For a renewal, [Failed payments and suspended services](/docs/billing/failed-payments/) describes the retries.

A voucher you do not pay in time expires. The page says `This payment was not paid in time and has expired. Start a new payment.`

A bank can also take back a payment that already cleared. Coritan records that as a dispute ([Disputes](/docs/billing/transactions/#disputes)). [Contact support](/docs/support/conversations/) before you ask your bank to reverse a payment.

## When a method sends you away and back

iDEAL, Bancontact, EPS, Przelewy24, Klarna, Alipay and your bank's own check open another page. When you finish, that page returns you to **Billing**, and Coritan reads the result.

- You paid: a message confirms the payment and the invoice moves to **Paid** or your balance rises.
- You cancelled: a message says `Payment cancelled. The invoice is still due and you paid nothing.` for an invoice, or `Top-up cancelled. You paid nothing.` for credit.
- The payment failed: a message says `The payment did not go through, so you paid nothing. Try again or choose another way to pay.`
- Your bank wants one more step: a message says `Your bank still needs to confirm this payment. Open the payment again to finish it.`
- It is still clearing: a message says `Your payment is being processed. The invoice updates when it is done.` The page reads the invoice or your balance again for a short time, then stops. Reload **Billing** later.

## Apple Pay and Google Pay

Apple Pay needs an Apple device with a card in Apple Wallet. Safari on an iPhone, an iPad or a Mac shows the button. In another desktop browser, Apple Pay shows a QR code that you scan with an iPhone on iOS 18 or later. The address you pay on must also be registered for Apple Pay. Coritan registers its own addresses. A page on an unregistered address shows no Apple Pay in any browser.

Google Pay shows when your browser holds a card in Google Pay. Neither button shows when your device or browser cannot pay with it.

## Payments in US dollars

Some payments in US dollars go through a second card provider. Its form opens from the card choice on the pay step. When Coritan has switched the methods on, a **Pay with** row above the card fields offers Apple Pay, Google Pay, Cash App Pay and Afterpay, and a line **or pay by card** separates it from the card fields. A **Pay from a bank account** button under the card fields offers bank transfer once you type the **Account holder name**. A button shows only when your browser and device can use that method. These work in US dollars only. A payment in any other currency never goes through this provider.

After a payment the page says which way you paid, for example `Paid with Apple Pay.` A bank transfer shows a notice that it is on its way, and your invoice stays open until the bank confirms it. When the page cannot confirm a payment, it asks you not to pay again and to check your invoices.

Only a card can be kept for renewals there. A bank transfer clears in 2 to 3 business days, as the table above says. Cash App Pay and Afterpay pay one payment at a time.

## From the API

[`GET /payments/invoices/{invoice_id}/pay-quote`](/docs/api/reference/client/payments/#op-get-api-v1-payments-invoices-invoice-id-pay-quote) and [`GET /billing/topup/pay-quote`](/docs/api/reference/client/billing/#op-get-api-v1-billing-topup-pay-quote) answer what a payment form needs. Two fields describe the methods:

`save_types`
: The method types the payment will save for later charges, such as `card`, `link`, `sepa_debit`, `us_bank_account`, `bacs_debit`, `au_becs_debit`, `acss_debit`, `cashapp`, `amazon_pay`, `revolut_pay`, `ideal` and `bancontact`. It is empty when the payment saves nothing.

`local_methods`
: The methods made for the customer's country that the account can show in the quote's `currency`, such as `ideal` for a customer in the Netherlands paying in `EUR`. It is empty when there are none, and the first quote after a change can leave it empty.

```json
{
  "currency": "EUR",
  "save_method": false,
  "save_types": [],
  "local_methods": ["ideal"]
}
```

A payment that goes through the second card provider carries a `source_kind` that names the method: `card`, `apple_pay`, `google_pay`, `ach`, `cash_app` or `afterpay`. Send it to [`POST /payments/invoices/{invoice_id}/square-pay`](/docs/api/reference/client/payments/#op-post-api-v1-payments-invoices-invoice-id-square-pay) or [`POST /billing/topup/square-pay`](/docs/api/reference/client/billing/#op-post-api-v1-billing-topup-square-pay) with the token from the provider's form. A payment made with `ach` answers `pending`, and the invoice or credit updates when the bank confirms it.
